WELCOME BACK!!!
Welcome Back!!!
September 18, 2026
The first two weeks of school have been full of reconnecting, experimenting, creating, and settling back into the rhythm of the space.
We kicked things off with some community challenges, including our very own Dragon’s Den, where mentees took on the task of selling Alpha II and sharing what makes our school unique — congrats to team “freemovies.com” who came away with the movie day prize!
Self-direction is in full swing too: We’ve picked Misogi challenges, started repairing sewing equipment, working on collages, painting, stringing/setting up guitars, and finding all kinds of ways to follow our interests and get projects moving.
We’ve also been admiring our new studio recording equipment, and even had time to welcome some Bloor science classes into our garden to explore what’s growing! (Delicious Greek salad, at the moment).
So we’re excited to see where the year takes us!
Greetings from Liz!
Dear Mentees,
I am very sad that I can’t be with you this year at Alpha. As the only mentor with no kids, I was chosen to be cryogenically frozen and thawed in 2126 to spread the word about free schooling to all the kids plugged into their AI teacherbots. I can’t wait to see how humanity worked together to cap global warming at 2°C!!
I learned a lot with you and from you all while at Alpha. My humanoid proxy might come to an upcoming Portfolio Night and she is excited to see what projects you are working on.
I hope this year you will all challenge yourselves to be offline a bit more and interact with other Alpha and Bloor students. There are awesome people everywhere.
Be kind to each other and say yes to trying new things!!
Liz
